Amy Okubo received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1988. She excelled at CU and financed more than half of her tuition with scholarships. While at CU, she was recognized as a top student and inducted into the Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa.

After obtaining her BA, Amy went on to law school and received her Juris Doctor degree in 1992 from Boston College Law School, a top-tier law school. She has been practicing in the area of criminal law in Boulder and Longmont, Colorado since that time.

In 1991 Amy began working at the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office as a law clerk while in her third year of law school. During this time she conducted three jury trials under the student practice act. In 1993, she joined the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office as a full-time Deputy District Attorney. During her 18 years as a criminal prosecutor, she worked under three different elected District Attorneys. She rose to become a Chief Deputy District Attorney, taking on some of the county’s most challenging cases and mentoring other attorneys.

In her distinguished career at the DA’s office, Amy litigated everything from misdemeanor and driving offenses, such as driving under the influence (DUI), to first degree murder, sexual assault, and kidnapping. In a particularly important case, she single-handedly took to trial and won the only methamphetamine manufacture case ever tried in Boulder County.

Today, Amy has a successful criminal defense practice in Longmont, Colorado. A highly experienced litigator, she is equally comfortable in the courtroom trying a case or working behind the scenes to negotiate the best possible outcomes for her clients. Amy is respected by her colleagues in and around Boulder Country as tough, tenacious, and aggressive when appropriate, but also highly compassionate and keenly aware of the stress involved in legal proceedings.

A strong advocate for her community as well as her clients, Amy is on the Board of Directors of The Longmont Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit whose mission is to support businesses in Longmont and the surrounding areas. Prior to holding that position, she served on the Board of Directors of Arts Longmont, a nonprofit that helps incubate, advocate for, and inspire artistic endeavors that benefit area citizens. Amy was also previously on the Board of Directors of Partners Mentoring Youth of Boulder, Broomfield, and Southwest Weld County. During her last two years in that role, she was the Chair of the Board of Directors.

In addition to her work with nonprofits, Amy volunteers her time helping to coach and mentor future litigators. She has served as a judge for middle school mock trial teams at Westview Middle School and has participated for several years as a judge for first year law students participating in mock trial competitions at the University of Colorado Law School.

Understanding that strong communities start with healthy neighborhoods, Amy is currently the President of the Board of Directors for her homeowner’s association.
